You know spring is really here when you see the tulips and other cool weather bulbs pushing out their leaves and bursting into color. It’s no wonder then that designers find it hard to resist the allure of bright colors and floral motifs in their own work. Every which way you turn you’ll be confronted with electric hues in flowery blooms.

From home goods to fashion pieces – the trend is truly contagious. And for good reason! Who doesn’t want some color in their life after a long and grey winter?! To help inspire you in how to harness the brilliant and happy power of neon florals – I’ve curated the following items from some of my favorite Etsy vendors. Enjoy!

2013 Trends: Printed Leggings

Throughout most of the country we’re bundling and living in layers to keep the cold bug from biting. One of the very best trends that continues to stick around, season in and season out, are those lovable stretchy pseudo tights: leggings. Whether you believe they’re pants or not – one things for sure – this fashion trend has become a staple beyond the eighties. Whether you’re wearing them to be a bit more demure in a mini – or if – like me – you’re rockin’ them as part of a chunky winter ensemble, you know there’s nothing more comfy or snug as a good pair of footless cotton leggings.

In ode to this oh-so-dear-and-near-to-me piece of apparel, I’ve compiled my favorite printed and dyed pairs to inspire you to go beyond the solid and try a bolder or brighter look. Whether you go high-end or DIY, hopefully these fun varieties will inspire you to take this popular and functional piece of clothing to the next level…all while staying warm and cozy! I had no idea when I started making the Never Never Land tunics that I would be joining a soon-to-be trend that would take the fashion world by storm. My original inspiration for these tops was a vintage dress I had scooped up years back. In the Spring of 2011 I started experimenting with various ways of hand-making and screen-printing the iconic shape. That’s how my whimsical design (though it wasn’t a trend then!) was born.

Then this past Spring I suddenly started seeing this embellishment everywhere! First it was on the runway, then magazine ads, etsy sellers and now on the streets! I am definitely one to encourage a vintage aesthetic and am thrilled that the look has caught fire. Long live the Peter Pan collar!

This ombre trend is contagious! I have been wanting to experiment with fabric dye for a long time and the melted color look has given me the perfect excuse to do just that!

Using a technique that calls for a slow dip and release process, I created the new “All About Ombre” dress that gives each frock a deep gradient toward the lower hem. An elegant way to revive pre-loved cotton fabric, this design forced me to keep the remainder of the piece simple so as to not distract from the color flow. Read the rest of this entry »

Stars, cosmos and space seem to be all the rage in both the art and design world these days. The trend has been cropping up here, there and seemingly everywhere. From leggings sprinkled with crescent moons, to canvasses adorned with solar systems, it seems that all of us are star-gazing.

And though the itch to throw a milky way print onto new Pierogi Picnic creations hasn’t struck yet, I have been digging for Etsy items that have taken to space. Sneak a peek at my recent favorites in this dreamy treasury.

Every few months Pantone puts together a color report to summarize hue trends for the upcoming season. In a surprising twist – the palette for fall has a unique smattering of shades – many that would normally be found in a spring collection. I picked my four favorites hues and compiled a series of eye-catching looks from Etsy to get you thinking about Autumn.

The weather is warm, the season is right and I’m seeing neon patterns every which way I turn! I’m loving the neo-floral prints I’ve been spotting on blogs, etsy and beyond. I’m not usually a fan of the style – but something about turning them on their head with neon hues makes them cutting edge and worthy of my devotion. So if you’ve feared looking like a sofa, try out one of these looks to take this trend for a spin.
